CEO of Telford Reconomy waste management company up for award

Paul Cox, CEO of Reconomy

The EY Entrepreneur of the Year UK program continues to celebrate the contributions of entrepreneurs – recognizing innovators across the country who are making a positive impact on people and their communities and leaving a lasting business legacy.

Victoria Price, Head of Private Tax at EY UK, said: “Entrepreneurs have been and always will be the beating heart of the UK economy. That this year’s program was so challenging is a testament to how business leaders across the country have responded to the challenges posed by the current landscape. Our regional judges have an extremely difficult task ahead of them.

Mr Cox has run Reconomy, based in Telford, for 23 years. He entered the waste industry at age 20, starting as a driver, then establishing and operating various waste and resource management businesses.

He spearheaded the transformational growth that created today’s Reconomy Group, providing services to leading global brands across three verticals: recycling, compliance and reuse. Its entrepreneurial spirit, desire to enter new markets, passion for excellent customer service and continued investment in enabling technology have underpinned this success, the company said.

Reconomy Group more than doubled its annual revenue in 2021 and now serves customers in 80 countries around the world.

In 2017, Mr. Cox was named EY Entrepreneur of the Year in the Midlands Transformational Leader category. Subsequently, in 2021, Reconomy received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category.

Mr. Cox said: “It is such an honor to be recognized in the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2022 program. The prodigious growth of the Reconomy Group reflects the tremendous hard work of all our employees and sets the business firmly the right way to shape the future of the circular economy.

Four regional juries will meet on May 25 and 26, with national finalists due to be announced in September before moving on to national judging days in October. The big winner of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year UK award will be revealed in November.
