What attracted you to Deloitte when you were looking for a job as a graduate?
It was the whole culture of Deloitte that drove me to want to work for the firm. The level of learning and growth support that they have put in place for their employees is excellent. Deloitte has initiatives like Deloitte University to empower learners and leaders to go beyond business.
What expectations did you have before starting the program?
I knew I would work with clients all over the world and learn a lot from them, and in the process, I would meet amazing people and make lots of friends within the firm.
What functions and responsibilities were you given at the start?
I was integrated into a project right after the onboarding and participated in building the wireframes of a prototype profit review dashboard.
This involved weekly meetings with the client to finalize the model. With the help of experienced consultants, I carried out the first phase of this dashboard.
The team members were considerate and organized several calls to explain to me the terms and technologies used in the mission.
Has the scope of your work changed as the program has progressed?
As I became more familiar with indirect tax analysis, I was given the responsibility of leading calls and meetings with clients. I have been in the program for 10 months and have already been designated as the project principal, with a lot of help from my supervisors.
I have worked with a variety of data tools to automate and analyze the tax models of some of our best clients. It was great to run the workflow and analyze months of data in seconds.
Can you describe a typical day in your role?
I like to start my day by checking my schedule to make sure any upcoming calls or meetings are in mind and all required preparation tasks are completed ahead of time.
Then I usually reply to my emails while I’m still fresh. After that, I usually spend the rest of my morning doing my assigned tasks.
I have a check-in with my colleagues in the afternoon to make sure we are on track with the mission we are working on and to prepare for the next day. I spend most of my time creating interactive tax dashboards and automating tax functions for our clients.
How do your responsibilities compare to those of more experienced employees?
It basically depends on the level of knowledge of the subject. My tasks are designed to suit my skills. Each day, several team catch-ups are organized, thus ensuring that there is always enough assistance delivered.
Do you feel better prepared for professional life after completing this program?
Yes. I honed not only my technical skills but also my management skills – attended introductory meetings facilitated by partners and other senior managers, which showed me how to organize a call / workshop customer. Deloitte gave me confidence and helped me recognize my own abilities.
Why should someone apply for this company’s graduate program?
Deloitte is a portal to many opportunities, and its diverse customer base allows you to gain expertise in multiple industries. I applied because I wanted to work on significant transformational initiatives with leading global clients. Many of our clients are very well known names, and it is a privilege to work with them and learn more about their operations.
