A Cheltenham-based environmental services company that is growing with the acquisition of a recycling and waste management company that operates three facilities in the north of England has been named Initiated Offer of the month of May.

Urbaser Ltd, the UK subsidiary of the Urbaser Group, is behind the acquisition of Biowise Ltd, part of Wastewise Holdings Ltd.

Founded by the Landau family, Hull-based Biowise has over 50 years of industry experience.

The company operates composting facilities in Willerby in East Yorkshire, Esholt in West Yorkshire and Crewe. It offers a total waste management service to a range of local authorities and commercial customers, who together generated over £13m in 2021 from managing over 260,000 tonnes of waste.

Urbaser provides municipal waste treatment and recovery services to residents across the UK, focusing its operations on conserving resources, reducing carbon and creating a circular economy.

The acquisition of Biowise is expected to support Urbaser’s growth strategy to expand its waste treatment and business services portfolio in the region, building on the acquisition of five waste management contracts from Amey and J&B Recycling Ltd in 2021.
